The college spring season came to an end in the blink of an eye. There were ups and downs, with my best finish in the stretch of our final three tournaments being the 15th place in the Southeastern Collegiate in a strong field. Two post-season tournaments followed: The Peachbelt Conference tournament and the prestigious NCAA D2 South-East Regionals. Both tournaments showed sparks of a good game with me leading in birdies in the field in the conference tournament and some good rounds in the regional tournament but there were also too many mistakes for my liking. As a team we missed the NCAA D2 Nationals by one spot, so I already headed home to Switzerland in the middle of May.
The early arrival allowed me to play the Championnat Suisse Romande in Wallenried. I finished the professionally ranked tournament in T-5 position with rounds of 69,70 and 71 ending on -6. With one good tournament in the bag, I headed to Golf Club Vuissens for the Championnat National Suisse Matchplay. After some eventless qualifying rounds I found some form during the matchplays. I faced a total of five opponents in the matchplays with the most interesting match being between myself and Michael Weppernig in the quarter-finals. After shooting a bogey-free 67 I had to go to an extra hole, which I birdied to advance. I faced Selim Hediger in the 36-hole final, in which I didn't start out as hot as previously but then turned it on when it mattered most, shooting a three-under final nine, including a 4-metre birdie-putt on the final hole to win the tournament. It was a liberating moment after having played so much golf.
I hope to continue with the good form during the next tournaments in Switzerland in June, before I tackle various international tournaments in July.
