We have already reached the middle of the year and it is time for a short interim review and an outlook for the second half of the year. To summarise quite bluntly: Out of 13 tournaments played, I've only made the cut three times and am dissatisfied with my performance so far. I often start the tournament badly and then have to play catch-up. This is also due to issues that aren't just golf-related and that I'm going to look at with a mental coach so that I can start the rounds more relaxed, confident and with the desired expectations.
If I take a closer look, it might not be quite so black and white. The statistics of my season so far show that no area of my game is particularly far off from successful tournaments: Compared to the PGA Tour, I'm slightly gaining strokes in the areas of approach play and short game, and I'm only losing slightly in the areas of driving and putting. I've also only missed the cut by one or two strokes at numerous tournaments and at the tournaments at which I've been successful, I've always been able to play my way towards the top on the weekend. However, as we golfers all know, you can never perfect golf, so I'm constantly analysing my game and working on improving in all areas, whether it's maintenance or performance. The aim remains to start tournaments better so that I don't always have to play catch-up on the second day and therefore give myself opportunities to gain positions on the weekend.
Health-wise, I've been struggling with pain in my right wrist for about two months. It's still unclear what's causing the pain, but the good news is that I've had an MRI and also had it examined by a hand specialist, and there are no findings of inflammation. So I'm working with my physio and in the gym to strengthen this area.
Next, I'll be in Switzerland for two weeks before continuing in Adamstal, Austria. My father will also be accompanying me as a caddy for the next three tournaments - we've always been a good team so far! After that, there are 13 consecutive weeks of tournaments on the Challenge Tour. I'm planning to skip two of them to keep my energy levels up, because quality comes before quantity. I'm specifically looking forward to September, because that's when two highlights of Swiss golf take place: I'll be competing in the Omega European Masters and the Swiss Challenge!
I would like to thank you for your support and will continue to work hard on my game. Here's to a successful second half of the year!
