At the beginning of September, I was given the opportunity to play in my first European Tour event at the Omega European Masters at the Golf Club Crans-sur-Sierre. I could already feel the atmosphere of the tournament driving up the mountain to the tournament.
As expected the things were quite different from any of the previous amateur and even professional events I had taken part in with the course conditions, being inside the ropes and the way the course is set up. It was good to play the practice rounds with the professionals so that I could watch their process during the practice rounds. The tournament itself was a whole new level again. I was incredibly nervous on the first four holes, starting with a par and three bogeys. I holed a nerve settler on 5 for par which helped me get into the rhythm of things which led me to play the rest of the first round in -1 and end the day on +2. On the second day, I went out there with a lot more looseness and finished an up-and-down day with a score of even par. I was three strokes shy of the cut with my total of +2 through 36 holes, but it was amazing to see that it would definitely have been possible if I had prior experience under such circumstances. I ended up finishing as the best Swiss amateur for the tournament and walked away with a mentionable amount of new knowledge and experience.
My playing partners for the tournament were Anton Karlsson and Bernd Ritthammer. Despite them both missing the cut it was nice to see that Bernd finished 2nd at the Porsche European Open the following week - his best finish to date on the European Tour.
I am extremely grateful for the opportunity and thankful for all the efforts that made this tournament possible. I would especially like to thank the SwissGolf Association, my sponsors, my coaches, and my parents. Here's to many more!
